The First "Thrift" Craft Fair

A new company “Thrift” (reworked for reuse) has setting up temporary shop at the Winter Show in the Sewell Gallery, at Radley College.  It is a friend's initiative which I have been working on, it is our hope that people will view old items with new eyes.  Wish us luck!

The simple idea behind "Thrift" is you use items that are no longer in use and to reuse them in items that can be loved again. The main activity has been sourcing second hand fabrics and all the scraps cut from other deigns and making gorgeous bags and aprons.

Also a renovated gentleman's hat box has been given a new life, plus a rusty tin document trunk has been decoupaged with antique book paper and crackle glazed to give it an aged appearance.  Several mirrors have been created from old broken crockery and beautiful wooden chopping board (created by Bob Matthews) have been made out of 19th century oak floor boards.  Ideal for chopping perhaps a fashionable way to serve anti pasto.

The exhibition opened on Friday 2nd November and the continues daily for a month so please do pop along and have look if you have a chance. Not only are the "thrift" items lovely but there are some other fantastic and affordable crafts from local craftspeople including members from the  Oxfordshire Crafts Guild.

Until next time, Barbara xx
